Presented by LCS Northwest and Kaiser Permanente. Join us for one of the best-organized rides in Eastern Washington! 8 Lakes Bike Ride explores the beautiful scenery surrounding Spokane, West Plains, Medical Lake, and Cheney. Three routes to choose from; 30, 45, and 75-mile. Routes are clearly marked and include food stops, medical and mechanical support. Ride only $50. Pledge riders raising $200 receive an 8 Lakes designer jersey, t-shirt, and socks. Enjoy David’s Pizza, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, and Roast House iced/hot coffee at the finish.

Pedaling for a purpose

Proceeds benefit the programs of Lutheran Community Services Northwest. For more than 60 years, LCS Northwest has been offering hope, resources, and healing to thousands of Spokane-area citizens affected by violent crimes and other traumatic, life-altering events.

Bike Commuting 101 Workshop – Saturday, March 26, 2011 – 10:00 a.m to Noon

Are you afraid to begin bike commuting? This workshop is for you! Join Pedals2People to learn the basics on getting started commuting in the city. Topics covered will include: safety 101, bike laws, riding in traffic, how to choose your route, who are the local resources for commuting, types of panniers, and the bare bones of common mechanical issues encountered when commuting. We will also have an opportunity to hear from local commuters and “reformed” commuters about their personal experiences in the city. Bring your bike and if you want to get your hands dirty, P2P will be available to discuss some basic bike maintenance. Pre-registration is required – only 20 spaces available! By any measure the first big Bike to Work Week Spokane in many a year was a raging success. Read a wrap-up of the week at Cycling Spokane, or at Spokane Bike Work.

Next on the agenda: keeping up the momentum for cycling in Spokane. My hope is that the degrees of separation dividing cyclists and non-cyclists is diminishing. I hope anyone looking to bike commute now has a least a friend of a friend to help them get started.
