Join us for one of the best-organized rides in Eastern Washington! 8 Lakes Bike Ride explores the beautiful scenery surrounding Spokane, West Plains, Medical Lake, and Cheney. Three routes to choose from; 30, 45, and 75-mile. Routes are clearly marked and include food stops, medical and mechanical support. Ride only $50. Pledge riders raising $200 receive an 8 Lakes designer jersey, t-shirt, and socks. Enjoy David’s Pizza, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, and Roast House iced/hot coffee at the finish.

This is one of the more popular routes down the south hill for bike commuters.
On a personal note it was my my route for about a year and a half and it is all too easy to imagine what it would be like to be heading down that hill and have a car pull out in front of you. ~Bill

What do Tokyo, Rio, Portland, Koln, Brighton, Paris, and Spokane all have in common? If you said they’re all world capitals of bicycle hipsterism you’re absolutely right. What’s that you say? How can Spokane make a claim to being shortlisted for bike supremacy in the world, much less the state? Well perhaps it’s because over 200 people showed up to an FBC ride this summer and the world took notice. In particular Knog, one of the coolest bike accessory companies in the world noticed–and included our city in their annual bike catalog, which is a whose-who of great bike cities. Don’t take my word for it, download their 2010 catalog here. For me this is just as good or better than Spokane landing on one of those best-city-to-do-whatever lists. This is real worldwide recognition. Cycling Spokane has a great post you should read about this, giving great props to the FBC’s Jeff and Lisa, without whom this great honor would have never occurred.

By any measure the first big Bike to Work Week Spokane in many a year was a raging success. Read a wrap-up of the week at Cycling Spokane, or at Spokane Bike Work.

Next on the agenda: keeping up the momentum for cycling in Spokane. My hope is that the degrees of separation dividing cyclists and non-cyclists is diminishing. I hope anyone looking to bike commute now has a least a friend of a friend to help them get started.
