Spokane mountaineer Dawes Eddy, who climbed Mt. Everest at 65 earlier this year, will present a slide on his accomplisment Wednesday, 7 p.m., at the Jepson Center’s Wolfe Auditorium, Gonzaga University.

Physiology researcher Don Winant will present a report, “Built to Scale: Dawes Eddy at Extreme Altitude,” detailing a medical study that followed Eddy on his journey.

Only a few days after Dawes Eddy became the oldest American two summit Everest (a record that didn’t last a week) now comes word that Kay LeClaire of Spokane has just become the oldest American woman to summit Everest. Congratulations to both of them! It’s a great moment for Inland NW climbing. Hopefully they are inspiring regional climbers young and old.

Dawes Eddy—God Bless his Soul—is now the oldest (i.e. most senior) United States Citizen to stand atop of Mount Everest (29,035-feet), as of May 20th {4:00 to 4:30 AM}.

Seventeen-year-old Johnny Collinson from Snowbird, Utah became the youngest American to summit Everest, and Dawes Eddy, 66, of Spokane, Washington became the oldest American to bag the peak. Collinson reached the top with Damien Benegas on May 19th, and Eddy peaked the next day with IMG.
